I am not sure if people are interested but my approach is very simple.

For any project we should give the following opportunities.

1. Provide Jobs
2. For those who work - give them the opportunity to invest in the company's success - no matter how little.
3. Eventually they may wish to run their own operation.
4. At some point they may want to go totally on their own.

We should be able to provide this path for all projects - then for those who want a challenge they have something to work to.

In the news: 'Somalia leaders reach agreement on re-shaping politics'....many details need to be worked out, starting at Thursday's Somali conference in London.

Is there no where in Africa where this conference can be held? Where's the AU?

Not again!

There are many areas in Africa but this is politics ... plus look at the damage Somalia is inflicting on the rest of Africa. Would you really want the conference in Kenya?

Greg, I agree the Somali issue needs to be resolved and quickly too, but there are several cities in Africa they could have held this conference. I don't recall the last time there was a UK conference in Kampala or a US conference in Dakar. Domestic problems should be solved at 'home' not in the 'office'.

Samuel - I agree 100% - the money spent should also be kept in Africa but again this is politics ... maybe they also wanted to drink British beer.

There is no unity and solidality among the Africans. Some corrupt African countries like Uganda are benefiting from Somalia situation. they are money for thier forces to operate in Somalia. So i support the conference in UK becouse most African leaders are greedy and wouldn't resolve the situation coz they benefit from.

Lol @ GregSmile

I guess you have a point @ Juma85, but do you think the western leaders are not looking to protect their own interests too?

@Samuel - of course they are protecting their interests - no better way than in the comfort of a 600 dollar a night hotel and 300 dollar lunches .... talking about people who don't get 25cents a day and are starving.

You've said it all, GregSmile Another interesting issue is how no one has invaded syria, inspite of all the killings (indigenes and foreigners) and maimings going on daily, yet libya was invaded asap?! Hmmm? Anyway guys, have a good weeknedSmile

No no at all, if you try to fight them back, they hold their aid. if not they give the aid with strings attached.

@ MOHAMMED: Africa DOES NOT NEED Arabs! Your attempt at sneaking that in, is seen CLEARLY for what it is. INFACT HISTORY TELLS US TO BE ULTRA WATCHFUL OF YOU AND THE EUROPEANS! You both single handedly DESTROYED the beautiful continent and its BEAUTIFUL BLACK PEOPLES and her Culture!!... africa DOEN NOT NEED anyone, least of Arabs!

I think that Africa will not gain independence and freedom, unless united with the north, south, Arabs and Africans.

@GREG: You have found Africa to be refreshing in its lack of backlash attitude against you compared to other races? Oh wow! Nice! Are you European by descent?

As some one from the outside looking in I do not understand why you care. The only way to make change is from within - being jealous or angry or jumping up and down does not benefit anyone.

Having traveled the world experiencing prejudice in many cultures I have found most of Africa to be most refreshing in its lack of backlash attitude. Only a few regions (groups) are damaging the reputation as a whole for those who only think of Nigerian scams when any country in Africa is mentioned.

So I ask / who cares - not to forget or excuse or ignore what is going on today but to say so as someone who is trying to make change by action and not talk, by building business relationships, by not excusing corrupt business practices and dealing head on with those who do not help Africa. Is it hard - yes, do I fail a lot - yes, but in the end I have found several people that I can slowly build business relationships with and trust.

Africa in general is rich and one way to defeat the cycle of poverty is to work together and trust and learn.

Africa no longer needs to over throw anyone - this is a terrible mistake and only keeps those who feed off of this stronger.

Join me in working together to build local jobs, local income, local education - not us against them - but together.

Having a chip on your shoulder as the saying goes only makes people avoid you.

Always learn from your opponent - show respect and not arrogance - then you will both win.

@Chaka - I am Canadian with British Parents. As such I also have the fun with French in Canada and France ... long tradition of rivalry. Smile

I personally like the rich diversity of many cultures and traditions - this makes the world very interesting and it is unfortunate that a lot of the traditions are being lost with the new internet age ... hopefully we don't all become alike ... even though business would prefer this.

I still remember the destruction of hundreds if not thousands of varieties of rice in Indonesia - it was done to provide a consistent product for the consumer but ...... the flavor is garbage now....

The flavors were amazing ... hopefully Africa does not go down this path either.
